Ana Carla Carvalho seizes Women’s 50m breaststroke gold: Day four – Maria Lenk Trophy, Rio

Ana Carla Carvalho of ECP/SABESP seized gold medal of the Women’s 50m breaststroke on fourth day of the 2012 Maria Lenk Trophy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Friday, April 27.
Carvalho demonstrated her stupendous efforts in the single lap breaststroke discipline and stifled hopes of her opponents, who were eyeing the title of the discipline.
With her commendable efforts, she remained nearly half body length faster from her closest swimmer and touched the wall with the timing of 31.78 seconds for gold medal.
She was followed by Juliana Marangoni Marin of FIAT/MINAS, who stayed 0.52 seconds apart and concluded her swim in a time of 32.30 seconds for silver medal of the event.
Marin was trailed by Beatriz Azzolini Travalon, who proved her mettle for bronze medal of the discipline by touching the wall with the timing of 32.33 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Julia Sebastian of UNISANTA, who was nearly half body length behind and tapped the wall with the timing of 32.79 seconds for fourth position.
Sebastian was trailed by Pamela Alencar Souza of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM, who remained full body length slower from her and settled on the finishing end as fifth position holder by reporting a time of 33.61 seconds.
Sixth spot of the 50m event was obtained by Cecilia Zuppo Zaccarelli, who was just 0.01 seconds slower from Souza and tapped the wall with the timing of 33.62 seconds.
Subsequently, Zaccarelli was followed by Tatiane Mayumi Sakemi, who tried hard to overpower her foregoing finisher but failed to do so and submitted a time of 33.63 seconds for seventh position.
With her continuous efforts, she managed to escape eighth position of the discipline. Similarly, Carolina Hurga Mussi of ECP/SABESP failed to show any considerable improvement in her pace and surfaced on the finishing end by submitting a time of 33.67 seconds.
Carvalho was overjoyed with her medal clinching effort in the event and stated that she will try to achieve the same at higher levels of swimming.
Furthermore, the session ended after the completion of all listed events while the position holders were awarded awards and accolades for their invincible efforts in the 50m discipline at the medal distribution ceremony of the championship.
