Ana Ivanovic: “Reaching the quarter-finals was obviously a big breakthrough” – Tennis News
Former world number one, Ana Ivanovic, is having a topsy turvy season so far. She has contested well against the minnows but hasn’t been able to lift up the game to the new heights against the top ranked superstars. She lasted
three matches in the first two tournaments of the season but did well in the Australian Open; reaching the fourth round.
Once again, the slump in the form forced her out of the Qatar Ladies Open just after a couple of matches. However, she did well to reach the quarter-finals of the Dubai Duty Free Championship. A stunning run in the BNP Paribas
Open at Indian Wells helped her to reach the semi-finals. The fourth round exit at the Sony Ericsson Open at Miami was a decent result for someone who is facing a famine of titles in the recent. Nothing has come to her way ever since her Bali triumph last
year. Third round exits in the Mutua Madrid Open, Italian Open and French Open were simply not good enough for the likes of the Ivanovic. However, a decent play in Wimbledon helped her to book a place in the fourth round.
The Serb was slammed hard by the fellow former world number one, Kim Clijsters, in the third round at London Olympics. She faced her first double bagel loss of the professional career in the first round of the Rogers Cup in Montreal
at the hands of the Italian superstar, Roberta Vinci. However, recently the 12th ranked Serb managed to break into the quarter-finals of the US Open in New York and registered a new history. She won the French Open title in 2008 but failed to qualify
for the last eight players of any Grand Slam Championship until the US Open 2012; a gap of 17 Major titles.
So, the Serb is now more confident entering the last quarter of the season. She updated her facebook status stating, “I'm back from New York and it's just a week until I leave for Tokyo. I feel like it was an excellent tournament
for me overall, especially considering the preparation I had. Reaching the quarter-finals was obviously a big breakthrough and I'm looking to build on this at my remaining tournaments this year.”
She plans to break into the Top-8 players of the world by the end of the season. Let’s hope the gorgeous Serb can dismantle her opponents just like she melts down her admirers with mesmerizing looks.
