Ana Ivanovic; a look at the performance of Linz champion this year
Born on November 6, 1987 in the city of Belgrade, Ana Ivanovic is a professional tennis player from Serbia. The 22-year-old Ana is currently ranked number twenty six in the world. The former world number one captured the French Open title back in 2008 and
was also a finalist in Roland Garros in 2007 as well as in Australian Open two years ago.
As far as her performance in 2010 is concerned, the Serbian started the season by competing at the 2010 Brisbane International competition as seeded third to win the title. Ana did well to make her way into the semi final round after getting the better of
Timea Bacsinszky, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Jelena Dokic on her way. She, however, was eventually beaten by Justine Henin, a wild card entrant in straight sets. Henin was playing in her first championship since making her return on the tour after coming
out of retirement.
At the year’s first major event, the 2010 Australian Open in Melbourne, the 20th seed Serbian couldn’t go beyond the second round as she was disposed off by Gisela Dulko in three sets.
Ivanovic next contested at the Sony Ericsson Open, as seeded number twenty five in Miami. She triumphed in her opening round clash, however, was taken down in her third match by Agnieszka Radwanska.
The Belgrade born Ana entered the 2010 Internazionali BNL d'Italia as an unseeded player and recorded her best week of the season. She defeated Elena Vesnina, stunned Victoria Azarenka, Elena Dementieva as well as Nadia Petrova before losing to the ultimate
winner Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez in straight sets.
The right hander next played at the 2010 French Open Competition in Roland Garros, however, couldn’t go beyond the second round as the Serbian was bundled out by Alisa Kleybanova.
In her next championship, the UNICEF Open, the 22-year-old Ana was once again defeated in the second round at the hands of her German opponent, Andrea Petkovic in the second round.
At the grass court Grand Slam tournament in London, world number twenty six was stunned in the opening round by her thirteen seed opponent Shahar Peer. Ana, as a result of this loss dropped down in the WTA rankings to as low as number sixty four on the tour.
The 1.83 meters tall Ana, next played at the year’s final major, the United States Open as an unseeded contender. She cruised into the fourth round with straight set wins, before falling down at the hands of ultimate winner Kim Clijsters of Belgium.
The 22-year-old Ana went into the Hansol Korea Open as seeded seven to win the title, however, she couldn’t even win her opening match against Vera Dushevina.
Last week, the Serbian tennis sensation, Ana Ivanovic played at the 2010 Generali Ladies Linz Open as a seventh seeded player. The former world number one did well to make her way into the title battle in Linz after getting the better of Roberta Vinci in
the semi-final round in straight sets. The final match score was 6-3, 7-5. The Serbian successfully managed to win the title in Linz, beating Patty Schyder in the finals. The score line was 6-1, 6-2. Ana needed just forty five minutes to end her two years
title drought in the finals.
The Swiss resident is currently taking part in the 2010 BGL Luxembourg Open and won her opening round clash against Johanna Larsson. She is also competing in the doubles contest along with Yanina Wickmayer. Both of them have advanced into the doubles quarter
final round where they will face Renata Voracova and Lucie Hradecka.
