Ana Ivanovic comments about the best doubles team in the world – Tennis News
Former world number one, Ana Ivanovic, visited Milan to play in an exhibition event on the eve of 1st December, 2012. She took part in contest that featured the likes of the second ranked Russian star, Maria Sharapova,
and the top-ranked doubles team in the world, Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci.
After the exhibition was over, the 25-year-old Serb was interviewed by the local website ilsussidiario.net. She was asked to express her opinion about the Italian duo which registered a breakthrough season in 2012; becoming the
number one team in the world out of nowhere.
Ivanovic stated, “They’re very nice girls. Roberta especially is always smiling. They’re fun people and they made the exhibition even more enjoyable. On the court, I’ve had some battles with both, especially against Sara at the
French Open this year. It was a frustrating match for me, but she was in awesome form and had an amazing tournament. Roberta and I have played each other many times and always on hard courts it seems. We usually have tough matches and it was no different in
Milan.”
The duo won eight titles in this season that includes the two Grand Slam titles at the French Open and the US Open as well. They ended as the runners-up in the Australian Open and reached the quarter-finals at the Wimbledon Championships
which clearly demonstrate their utmost authority in the field of doubles.
An exhibition event was structured in such a manner that the 25-year-old Russian teamed up with her Serb age-fellow to form an international team. They took on the local contenders on two singles and one doubles match. The 13th
ranked Serb was drawn to face Vinci whilst her partner faced Errani. Both International athletes won their singles matches but couldn’t show enough co-ordination to overcome the Italian team in doubles format. It was an entertaining night for everyone especially
the players who were playing without any pressure.
Ivanovic has been struggling to reach the form she displayed in the year 2008 when she clinched the Roland Garros French Open title. She reached her first quarter-final of the Grand Slam events in the US Open 2012 at New York,
since that victory. However, she is still in with a touching distance from breaking back into the elite Top-10 category of the players; just needs to focus a bit more on her stamina and fitness which will guide her to more titles.
