Ana Ivanovic devastates Lara Arruabarrena Vecino to clear the opening round – French Open 2012
Serbian beauty queen, Ana Ivanovic, posed another spell-binding performance in the opening round of the French Open, blowing away the Spanish qualifier, Lara Arruabarrena Vecino, with a double breadstick on Sunday. The 13th
seed hot favourite settled the final score line at 6-1, 6-1, to march into the second round of the clay-court Grand Slam event in Paris, France.
Former French Open champion, Ivanovic, took off her voyage at the Roland Garros in style. She spared just two games in the entire matchup for the Spaniard before sealing her convincing victory in the most dominating manner. She
exhibited her vintage class to overpower Vecino, who proved to be a total mismatch for the former world number one opponent.
Currently holding the 14th spot in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Ivanovic is ever-hungry for reclaiming her French Open title this time round and her impactful beginning hints that she is well
on course to glory. The Serbian diva outclassed her opponent in every segment of the game and cruised through the two sets with the utmost ease to drive Vecino out of the mega event.
Albeit a below par first serve precision of 43 per cent, Ivanovic won 13 out of 18 points on it, belting five thudding aces and 27 cracking winners en route to victory. She crafted a total of 12 break points in the contest but
only half conversions proved sufficient to hunt down Vecino. The Spaniard also registered a break point but Ivanovic’s belligerence was too hard to handle for Vecino, who had no option but to submit in the second set of the contest.
"The first round is always tough, especially playing Sunday, and there are nerves in the beginning," Ivanovic said in her post match reviews. "But I really settled in afterwards and I'm very happy to get through. Also, she was
a player who got a few matches in here before today, and I didn't really know much about her going in."
Up next in the second round of the tournament for Ivanovic is the Israeli number one, Shahar Peer, who stood victorious against Stephanie Dubois in the opening round.
