Ana Ivanovic dismembers Vera Zvonareva in 3rd round – China Open 2011
Former world number one Ana Ivanovic knocked down the third seeded Vera Zvonareva in the third round of the China Open 2011. On Wednesday the 5th of October the players took up swords on outdoor hard courts of the National Tennis
Center in Beijing, China. After just sixty eight minutes the unseeded Serb Ivanovic took apart the Russian third seeded Zvonareva in a straight sets of 6-2, 6-1.
Opening the first round of the match was the former world number one, who was surprisingly unable to hold her serve in the first game but made a comeback in the second as she broke her adversary to equalize the score at 1-1.
She then held her serve in the third game and in the fourth she broke Zvonareva for the second time to take a mini lead of 3-1. Zvonareva was able to make a return immediately in the next game by breaking Ivanovic and managed to
relatively reduce the deficit to 2-3.
Ivanovic was not ready to give up her lead and was quick to break the third seeded Russian in the sixth game and again took the lead at 4-2. In the second last game, the Serb held her serve and in the eighth game, she pounced at
the first opportunity to break Zvonareva and clogged the set with a 6-2 victory.
The second set was again opened by the world number 18, Ivanovic, who this time skilfully handled her service game and successfully placed herself on the scoreboard at 1-0.  Trailing behind her at her heels was Zvonareva, who too
bagged a game on her serve and eased on to the scoreboard at 1-1.
In the following two games Ivanovic held her serve and then broke Zvonareva for the first time in the set and took a lead of 3-1. She further progressed to increase the lead at 4-1 as she held her serve in the fifth game. During
the last two games Ivanovic broke Zvonareva and then held serve to seal a place in the quarterfinal of the event with a breadstick victory.
Next up for the 23 year-old Serbian is either the eleventh seeded Pole Agnieszka Radwanska or the unseeded Swede Sofia Arvidsson.
