Ana Ivanovic expresses the delight of playing an exhibition event in Milan – Tennis News
On the first day of December, the former world number one, Ana Ivanovic, visited the capital of Italy, Milan, to play in an exhibition match along with the fellow Russian star, Maria Sharapova, and the home divas, Sara Errani and
Roberta Vinci.
She enjoyed her stay at one of the most beautiful cities of the world. Ivanovic played a singles match against Vinci and then teamed up with a fellow former world number one, Sharapova, to take on the world number one doubles team.
It was a pleasant experience for the 25-year-old Serb to play in an informal contest after a very long gap.
Later on, she was interviewed by the reporters of Italian website ilsussidiario.net. She was questioned about her trip to Milan and her experience of playing for some philanthropist act.
In an interview Ivanovic confessed, “I had a great time. I haven’t played many exhibitions, especially not in the past few years, so I had almost forgotten how much fun it is to be on the court, competing but with no pressure at
all. The event was very well-organized and I think everyone enjoyed it. Visiting the Armani residence and meeting Giorgio was a highlight of the trip.”
She further added, “I had wanted to visit Milan for a very long time. Funnily enough, I visited about one month before the exhibition, before I went to Prague for the Fed Cup, so I waited many years to visit and then I visited
twice in the same month.”
In the friendly contests, Ivanovic conquered Vinci by registering a 7-6 score line. Sharapova played against Errani and defeated her easily with scores of 6-3. However, the doubles rubber was triumphed by the local duo. It was
an entertaining night for the tennis supporters at Milan who thoroughly enjoyed the performance of all players.
Ivanovic is ranked 13 in the world. She wasn’t able to reach the final of any of the tournaments in 2012. However, she did break the long-awaited drought of reaching the quarter-finals at the Grand Slam events; making it to the
last eight in the US Open at New York. She hopes to break back in the Top-10 category next year.
