Ana Ivanovic gutted from an embarrassing loss at the Rogers Cup – Tennis News
Former world number one, Ana Ivanovic, was ruthlessly put aside by the 28th ranked Italian starlet, Roberta Vinci, in the second round of the Rogers Cup at Montreal Canada. The 11th seed Serb fell apart in just 44 minutes; failing to win a single game in the match and falling victim to a double bagel embarrassment.
At the end of the match, Ivanovic dejectedly stated, "I really struggled to find my rhythm out there. It came as a surprise a little bit because I was practicing really well. I was struggling to find my feet and get two consecutive balls in the court. Against players like Roberta who don't make many errors, it's always going to be tough to win like that. When you're down 4-0, 5-0, 6-0, the panic starts to set in. I forced a little bit. It was bad already without that. It was really, really tough for me out there. I can't remember the last time I had a match like this."
Ivanovic led the head-to-head scores by 5-2 before the start of the encounter and looked to be in decent form seeing her recent performances. However, she failed to make an impact at the hard courts of Montreal, Canada; completely ripped apart by the right-handed Italian who is now comfortably place in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
The Serb looked good at the grass courts; winning three rounds at Wimbledon that included a monumental triumph against the German starlet, Julia Goerges. She was handed the tough draw in the fourth round against the reigning world number one, Victoria Azarenka, who ended her cameo at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.
At Olympics, the 24-year-old Serb defeated Christina McHale and Elena Baltacha before bowing out to the fellow former world number one, Kim Clijsters, in the third round; overall season featured 25 wins and 15 losses. So, it has been a decent record for the Serb beauty queen.
However, the visit to Canada proved to be an embarrassing one for the 12th ranked Serb superstar who will definitely leave Montreal gutted and angered by her dismal performance.
