Ana Ivanovic hammers down Michaella Krajicek to move into the third round – Australian Open 2012
Former world number one, Ana Ivanovic, bamboozled the Dutch opponent, Michaella Krajicek, in the second round encounter of the Australian Open tournament on Thursday. World number 22, Ivanovic, went face-to-face with 91st ranked
Dutch at the Hisense Arena in Melbourne, Australia. After a decent battle, the Serb moved into the last 32 players with a straight sets win 6-2, 6-3. The crowd was delighted with the commanding show put forth by the gorgeous tennis ace from Serbia.
Inferior ranked Dutch started the proceedings with a successful serve game; so did her opponent. Ivanovic picked up the momentum and fasten the pace of the match by her fierce returns. The aggression was the essence of her game
style, as she broke her opponent’s serve to take the lead and pushed the scoreboard to 3-1 in her favour. Next two games witnessed no breaks but the Serb once again pounded her opponent with couple of exciting winners down the line that were followed up with
a perfectly paced drop shot; broke serve to take 5-2 lead; held her serve to round off the first set proceedings in dominating fashion.
Second set was a complete replica of the first one for the opening two games. Ivanovic broke serve in the third game which enthralled the crowd. Cheers in the arena were enhanced by this triumph of the Serb, as the loud sounds
of ‘Ana Ana’ were heard from everyone in the arena. Former world number one continued her emphatic run of play and broke serve in the ninth game to place a berth in the round three of the tournament.
First time both players went head-to-head against one another was way back in Oct 2006 during the Generali Ladies Linz tournament and Ivanovic gobbled up the win in straight sets on that occasion. The Dutch had her revenge in the
next month during Gaz de France Stars tournament. This was the third encounter that registered the lead back in the favour of the Serb who looks in emphatic run of form drowning her opponents down in the first Grand Slam contest of the year.
