Ana Ivanovic hammers down Nadia Petrova in final four – Tournament of Championships 2011
Kicking off with the semi-final of Tournaments of Championships 2011 on Saturday, 5th of November, Ana Ivanovic rocked out Russian rival Nadia Petrova in just an hour and 27 minutes winning the hard court match in straight
set, 6-1, 7-5, and walked off into the final round to defend her title.
Walking down the peach court circuit, the two got a warm welcome followed by the service toss and the warm up. Ivanovic, also the defending champion at Bali, went on to serve the match opener rolling down the scoreboard, 1-0.
Petrova, Russian world No.31, did serve after that, however, the mesmerizing Serbian got hold of the game and broke to lead the set with the first two games in her pocket.
Continuing with her second serve of the set, the 23-year-old stunning Serbian nicked away another service winner before she went ballistic, 3-0. Although the Russian, Petrova, comparatively stronger and won the last bout between
these two, lost a second breakpoint as Ivanovic captured her fourth consecutive win for the set.
Serving again, the Belgrade born pulled off her fifth win, 5-0, and was now left with just one more game to finish off her spectacular first set performance. Meanwhile, serving her third game, Petrova finally contribute a win to
the scoreboard, however, that was the most she could do as the 23-year-old served and closed the set winning 6-1, and onto the next.
Struggling in the first, Petrova broke down again as she served first for the second set, 0-1. Taking advantage of her breakpoint win, Ivanovic served out game two and held two games lead bagging the openers, 2-0. However, Petrova
made a startling comeback.
Serving out game three, 2-1, Russian world No.31 broke her rival to level the scores at 2-2. The next two games were a breakpoint win for each of the two, however, the two once again levelled up at 3-3. With the two bagging games
of respective serve next, the two evened up again at 4-4 and then at 5-5 before the Serbian world No.26 struck.
Serving out game ten, 5-5, the former world No.1 bombarded her Russian competitor into pieces breaking her in game eleven, 6-5, and saving a break point to finish off the set, 7-5, and the match in straight sets with a super ending.
Beating the Russian, Ivanovic now moves into the final show down at Bali to defend her title against the mighty Spaniard, Anabel Medina Garrigues on Sunday, 6th of November.
