Ana Ivanovic has her fingers crossed on the recovery of hip injury – Tennis News
Serb former world number one, Ana Ivanovic, is having her fingers crossed over the recovery of the hip injury she incurred in the semi-final clash of the Indian Wells. She was up against the second ranked Russian, Maria Sharapova.
In the eighth game of the opening set, she was struggling with her movements and took the time out for a check-up from her physio.
She resumed the match but soon afterwards, decided to take retirement from the match as her body couldn’t take any more tolls. In an interview about her recovery, she mentioned, “I was really feeling hopeless because there was
no way I could play at that level. I started to feel it in the middle of the first set. I did not actually feel like there was anything I pulled, it just gradually got worse and worse.”
Sharapova was also not happy about the way match ended because she wanted her fellow former world number one to fight until the end and provide some entertainment for the crowd. Unfortunately, the most awaited match of the contest
turned into a story of sorrows and worries for everyone at the arena.
In a post-match interview, the Russian starlet stated, “It was unfortunate that it had to end this way. I thought towards the end of the second set we started playing high-quality tennis. I am happy that, after a long match yesterday,
I got a little shorter one today.”
Talking about her willingness to complete the semi-final of the BNP Paribas Open, the Serb added, “The last time we played it was like the biggest rivalry at that time.”
It was a very sad ending to a promising start and moreover it is pretty bad for the Serbian’s fans who would like to see their tennis icon in action soon. There might be a case of long injury-layoff for the Serb if she fails to
recover from the injury in time to contest in the upcoming tournaments.
Ivanovic has climbed to the 16th spot in the world rankings after slipping out of Top-20’s in the previous year. She is the reigning champion at Bali and has been playing very well since the start of the season this
year. If she manages to recover quickly from this injury she will be the strongest contestant along with the German tennis icon, Julia Goerges, to break into the Top-10 players of the world.
