Ana Ivanovic is set to return to AEGON International in June – Tennis News
Former world number one, Ana Ivanovic, is out of action for a long period of time. However, the tennis fanatics in the world will be glad to hear the news that the beauty queen will be seen in action in June. The Serb tennis icon
is set to return at the Eastbourne to play the prestigious Women Tennis Association tournament, the AEGON International, in June.
Considering her last year’s dismal performance at the courts of Devonshire Park, she would like to reach the advance stages of the tournament after being dumped out in the second round in 2011. The tournament is scheduled to be
played from June 16-23. It will prove to be a final training ground on grass courts before the Grand Slam tournament in Wimbledon begins.
Ivanovic said, “Eastbourne is a charming tournament and it’s one of the most competitive on the Tour – the field there is always strong. I enjoy competing at Eastbourne for a number of reasons; one of them is the facilities. The
grass is beautiful, and now that I have a British coach [Nigel Sears], I appreciate this tournament even more.”
The former Lawn Tennis Association Head of women tennis, Sears, has been coaching the Serb since the start of this year. There has been a massive improvement in the game style of the Serb and she has been consistently making it
to the quarter-final stages of all major tournaments but not been able to pass through courtesy some outstanding display from top three big guns.
World number seven, Marion Bartoli, is the defending champion of AEGON International title. She is the only player to have beaten the reigning world number one, Victoria Azarenka, this year. It will be interesting to see, if she
manages to hold her crown or someone else like the Serb tennis ace lifts her game and take the title.
The 24-year-old Serb is yet to bag any title since her season ending title in Bali. If she is able to cope with her niggling injuries and stay fit throughout the tournament, she can definitely pull off an upset and win her maiden
title in 2012.
