Ana Ivanovic jumps two spots to world number 13 – Tennis News
Former world number one, Ana Ivanovic, is closing on to the Top-10 players’ barrier and jumped two places to world number 13 in the latest edition of the rankings list issued by WTA (Women Tennis Association) on Monday.
Ivanovic started the season at a low-note; lost the second round battle to the former world number one, Kim Clijsters, in the Brisbane International. She lost to the Czech superstar, Lucie Safarova, in the opening round of the
Apia International. However, she played superbly in the year’s first Grand Slam tournament, the Australian Open; reached the fourth round and devastated the likes of American tennis ace, Vania King, on her way. However, she fell to the fourth ranked Czech,
Petra Kvitova.
She lost in the second round of the Qatar Ladies Open at the hands of the Petra Cetkovska of Czech Republic. It was a major upset of the tournament and everyone wanted the Serb beauty queen to proceed a bit further in the tournament.
The tour of Dubai witnessed the Serb number one reaching the quarter-final stage of the tournament before falling to the Dane tennis icon, Caroline Wozniacki. She was expected to win the contest considering her terrific form in
the tournament but Wozniacki stayed focused and dug deep into the second set to win the match.
Ivanovic’s world class performance was seen in the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells where she flabbergasted everyone by reaching the semi-final stage of the tournament. She took revenge from the Dane by defeating her in straight
sets in the fourth round and ousted the French number one, Marion Bartoli, in the quarters. However, the semi-final clash between the two beauty queens was won by the Russian former world number one, Maria Sharapova.
The tour of Stuttgart proved to be a nightmare for the Serb who lost to the German wildcard entrant, Mona Barthel, in the opening round. However, she came back in Madrid and reached the third round before falling to the Belarusian
world number one, Victoria Azarenka. Similar performance in Rome helped her to grab some crucial points that enhanced her ranking by two spots.
Next up for the beauty starlet from Serbia is the French Open campaign.
