Ana Ivanovic overpowers Silvia Soler-Espinosa in the second round – Internazionali BNL d’Italia 2012
Former world number one, Ana Ivanovic, had least difficulty in dumping the 60th ranked Spanish qualifier, Silvia Soler-Espinosa, in the second round battle of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia on Wednesday. The 13th seed Serbian spend just 62 minutes to wind up her thumping straight sets victory at 6-2, 6-1, to reach the third round draw of the star-studded event in Rome, Italy.
The outcome of the contest was not surprising at all for any tennis lover, as the world number 15 was already rated as the hot favourite for winning the match. Ivanovic proved her sheer class and dominance once again on the clay courts of Rome, absolutely manhandling the 24-year-old age fellow throughout the brawl. She spared merely three games for Soler-Espinosa in the entire matchup, cruising through both sets with commanding ease to register her 18th victory of the running season.
It was the first time that Soler-Espinosa went one-on-one against the former French Open winner in a singles encounter and she proved to be a total mismatch to her. The Spaniard was found struggling to find her hitting zone throughout the matchup and kept spilling out costly errors to allow Ivanovic build on momentum. She could barely secure eight out of 25 points on her first serve, gifting away 17 crucial points to her belligerent opponent. Ivanovic clinched 20 out of 29 first serve points and broke Soler-Espinosa six out of eight times before closing out the contest in her favour.
"It's nice to get back-to-back wins here, especially after a tough first round against Svetlana," Ivanovic said after making it through to the third round of the Rome Masters. "The next one will be even tougher. Maria and I had a great first set in Indian Wells before I had to retire, and she has been playing better and better on clay. But I'm playing well right now too. I hope we can take the level up."
The 13th seed will next feature the highly anticipated battle between two of the most gorgeous tennis divas in the world, Ivanovic and Maria Sharapova of Russia, in the third round clash.
