Ana Ivanovic practicing hard for the upcoming Hopman Cup – Tennis News
Former world number one, Ana Ivanovic, is on her mission to redeem her lost glory in the next WTA season and will take off her voyage from the Hopman Cup. The glamorous Serbian will pair up with her fellow compatriot and the ATP
world number one, Novak Djokovic, in the mixed-team event to be held on the hard courts of Perth, Australia.
Ivanovic and Djokovic went right to the final of the Hopman Cup last year but their amazing voyage ended in utter disappointment. Ivanovic caught a stomach strain and resultantly had to pull out of the title match, failing to bring
glory to the Serbian duo.
"We were so close and it was a big disappointment the way it ended last time," Ivanovic said on Wednesday. "I felt so bad, and for Novak too, so I really hope this year we can put it together and go all the way."
The Serbian beauty queen is currently ranked at number 13 in the WTA Premier Rankings and hoping to break back into the elite Top-10 early in the 2013 circuit. She was reckoned to be one of the most feared competitors on the WTA
Tour but her inconsistency, coupled with niggling injuries, has pushed her away from the winners’ circle during the last couple of years. Ivanovic is determined to reclaim her world number one spot next season but it is easier said than done.
"So I hope I can break that next year and put myself in a position to get far in the big events," she added. "I put myself in a position to play against the top players. I really couldn't make that break (of beating them), but
that's a big goal for next year. "I have to keep working hard and believing, and that's what it comes down to."
Team Serbia will face a real tough challenge at the hands of the American rivals, since the devastating Venus Williams and the hard-hitting John Isner are also in prime form. Ashleigh Barty and Bernard Tomic will represent Australia
in the Hopman Cup and their combination might be as lethal as any other top-rated duo.
