Ana Ivanovic satisfied from her overall season in 2012 – Tennis News
Ana Ivanovic, the 25-year-old Serb, became the showstopper after capturing the Roland Garros French Open title in 2008. She reached the number one ranking in the world with that conquest. The majestic achievement coupled with her
scintillating gorgeous looks allowed her to create a worldwide fan base. However, the beauty queen failed to carry the momentum for long and was dethroned on August 25, 2008; her last day as the world number one player in the world.
Since her French Open conquest, the 13th ranked Serb failed to reach the last eight stage of any big-four tournament until the US Open 2012. She wasn’t seen in the quarter-finals of the last 17 Grand Slam events until
she ended the drought in New York. It was a special feeling to overcome the long-awaited hurdle which will definitely give her confidence to pursue further in the following season.
In 2012, Ivanovic didn’t win any title; even failed to reach the final of any tournament. She also witnessed the first double bagel of her life at the hands of the inferior ranked Italian star, Roberta Vinci, at the opening round
of the Rogers Cup. However, Ivanovic maintained a decent consistency in her results throughout the season and that helped her stay positive before the start of the New Year.
Commenting about her performance in 2012, the 25-year-old Serb told the Italian website ilsussidiario.net, “It was a good season overall. I think anytime you rise from 22 in the rankings to 13, you can’t really complain. I was
hoping to reach the top 10 but I feel like I’ve made progress and I’m moving in the right direction. I’m well placed to enter the top-10 next season. Even more importantly, I reached my first Grand Slam quarter-final in a long time. That was an important step,
and I hope to do even better in the big tournaments next year. I concentrate on improving each day, and if I keep improving, so will my results and ranking.”
She doesn’t have to save a lot of points in the warm-up events at Brisbane and Sydney. Hence, the upward progress can begin from the New Year.
