Ana Ivanovic seek inspiration from Novak Djokovic prior to the quarter-final – Tennis News
Former world number one, Ana Ivanovic, will take on the likes of the American fourth seed, Serena Williams, in the clash of titans during the quarter-final brawl of the US Open Championship in New York. Williams will be playing
at home and lhas barely lost just two encounters from the 40 odd matches. It will definitely be a very difficult task for the Serb, who will look to fight her hampered form and her rival at the same time and look to defy all the odds in order to register
an upset.
However, there is something that Ivanovic is looking forward to. She has an icon, a fellow compatriot Novak Djokovic, to seek inspiration from. Williams is the hot-favourite to claim the title, despite being seeded fourth but she
might face a different type of player in a quarter-final and the possibility of an upset is definitely on the cards.
Ivanovic will look to fight history as well. She has never been able to defeat the American superstar in their three previous head-to-head encounters, failing to grab a single set as well. So, the ball is definitely in Williams’s
court and to the Serb’s misery, the two losses came at Flushing Meadows during 2006 and 2011.
The inspiration from Djokovic is definitely the best medicine for Ivanovic at the moment. She stated, "We speak a lot. He had a great year last year. He's a dear friend of mine. It's great to get some experience and advice from
someone like him. I was really unfortunate with my foot injury before the tournament, so if someone would have told me I would be in this position, you know, I'd be like, 'OK, that's nice. Thank you. I have been working really hard on recovery and on court,
as well. It's kind of a reward. I want to enjoy that process. I still have lot of things to think about this year."
Injury, past record, form and confidence level is tilting the match in favour of the American powerhouse but the slight twist of luck and inspiration can do the trick of Serb.
