Ana Ivanovic seeks inspiration from the Grand Slam quarter-final breakthrough – Tennis News
Former world number one, Ana Ivanovic, seeks inspiration from her stupendous achievement in the recent Grand Slam Championship, the US Open at New York. She won the Roland Garros French Open title in 2008 but couldn’t make it into
the last eight of any of the four Major titles until the US Open 2012. It is definitely a big breakthrough for the 12th ranked Serb who will be leading her country’s side in the final of the Federation Cup, next month.
Commenting about breaking the drought of reaching the last eight in the Grand Slam Championship, Ivanovic said, “It was like a monkey off my shoulder. It was a huge step for me to get to the quarterfinals and just to prove to myself
that I can be there and I actually belong there when I do things the way it should be done."
She further added, “It does give confidence. And it's a huge week and would be great to win it and finish the season on a high.” Talking about the team work in the Federation Cup, the Serb stated, “If you do well, it's for the
team, and if you don't, you sort of feel like you let the team down. So definitely there are more nerves involved.”
She confessed the fact that the Serb nation is absolutely mad about tennis and they can’t let anyone put up a dismal show at any stage especially at an event like the Federation Cup. Serbia has a chance of winning the maiden Federation
Cup title next month and their team star Ivanovic is banking on the fact that the participants are closely bonded with each other that always give an edge during a competition that requires team work.
Ivanovic is yet to reach a final of the tournament in the current season. Her best finish was the semi-final of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells where she lost to the Russian blonde, Maria Sharapova. She has made three quarter-final
appearances as well that include the tour of Dubai, New York and Linz. The 24-year-old Serb is in good run of form at the moment and should be able to take home her nation in the final of the Federation Cup.
