Ana Ivanovic smacks Vania King to shine bright in the third round – Australian Open 2012
Serbian tennis icon, Ana Ivanovic, registered a victory over the 66th ranked American, Vania King, in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 during the third round contest of the year’s first Grand Slam tournament, the Australian Open.
Former world number one, Ivanovic played her first battle against King in the first round Australian Open in 2007. She registered an emphatic 6-2, 6-0 triumph in that match and registered another thumping victory at Indian Wells
the same year. Two years later the Serb won a relatively interesting three-setter in East West Bank Classic. This was the fourth encounter that was bagged by the Serb who moved into the last 16 players of the tournament.
The Serb diva always starts the proceedings with massive aggression and same was witnessed at the courts of Hisense Arena on Saturday. She didn’t waste time to bring in those powerful winners down the line and broke serve in the
second game to consolidate her position. The aggression of the Serb backfired on her in the fifth game as she declined to compromise on the pace of second serves and committed couple of double faults.
King mounted on her opponent with such a massive advantage and broke serve. She levelled the scores at 3-3 with a successful serve in the following game. With massive support in the arena for the gorgeous looking Serb diva, she
was ought to pound the inferior ranked opponent. In the eighth game of the opening set, Ivanovic broke serve with two thumping back-to-back winners across the court and won a brilliantly placed net point to reclaim the lead. She smacked an ace in the next
game to round off the first set proceedings.
Second set was bit of tipsy turvy for the Serb, as her serve was broke in the second game. She replied in the next game to break serve and finally levelled the scores at 2-2. Three successive breakthroughs were witnessed at the
arena shared in a ratio of 2:1 for Ivanovic. That lead of one extra break serve was carried till the end as the mesmerizing Serb beauty queen placed a berth in the last 16 of the tournament.
