Ana Ivanovic stomps over Virginie Razzano in first round – Luxembourg Open 2011
Fifth seeded Serb, Ana Ivanovic outclassed French Virginie Razzano in straight sets at the BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open 2011, a WTA International event taking place on the indoor hard courts in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg. She
brushed off early resistance o register a 7-6(2), 6-4 victory over the 28-year-old Dijon native, Razzano to book a second round spot on Wednesday.
A former world number one, Ivanovic re-created her magic to triumph over the Frenchwoman, ranked 84th in the Sony Ericsson WTA Premier rankings, on their fifth meeting. She just lost her first match but won for the fourth
straight time against Razzano to advance into the second round of this tier-III event.
23-year-old made a nervy entry on the Luxembourgian courts as lost her serve with double breakpoints in the opening game of the first set. However, she found the US$220,000 track again in the sixth game after snatching her break
back. Ivanovic then maintained her form to keep remaining serves and eventually dragged the set to a tie-breaker. She dominated in it to bag the opener with a 7-6(2) win.
Ivanovic lifted her game in the final set and got the first blood in the opening game. Regardless of losing her edge in the very next game, she went on a three games rampage to go 4-1 up. The Serbian starlet lost another serve
in the sixth game but held remaining serves to seal the set by winning six games to four.
"It was a tough match," said the blooming Ivanovic. "Yesterday was the first day I was actually hitting balls since Beijing. It's hard to expect that everything's going to be fine because I didn't serve for 10 days, and it's not
like my serve was perfect before. I'm really happy that I managed to win and that gives me an opportunity to build on it tomorrow."
Next up for the highly positive Serb is British qualifier Anne Keothavong.
"My coach used to coach her," Ivanovic said. "I practiced with her quite a few times recently. It's most important for me to try to play better than I did today and get my serve percentage up. I have a good chance and I'm excited
to be competing again."
Keothavong rallied past a local wild card enterer, Mandy Minella in a three setter match on Tuesday.
The British veteran required one hour and forty-eight minutes to overwhelm Luxembourgian resilience. She lost her serve five times but broke Minella’s serve six times to secure a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 success on their second meeting.
