Ana Ivanovic takes apart Kimiko Date-Krumm in 1st round – China Open 2011

Former world number one Ana Ivanovic took apart Japanese Kimiko Date-Krumm in the main draw of the China Open 2011.  After battling for sixty eight minutes on outdoor hard courts of the National Tennis Center, world number twenty
two Ivanovic got the better off world number 68 Date-Krumm in a straight double breadstick victory.
Former world number four, Date-Krumm initiated the opening set as she had just won the service toss but was unable to win her first service game. However Ivanovic expertly rolled the scoreboard to 1-0 by winning on her adversary’s
service game. She then held her service game in the second game and by doing so; she took a mini lead of 2-0.
By the end of the third game former world number one had capitalized on yet another break point and as she skilfully held serve in the fourth game, she had further increased the gap to 4-0 and was leading on the scoreboard. Mean
while, Date-Krumm was nowhere to be found on the scoreboard and she had lost two of her service games.
Date-Krumm eventually made a return in the fifth game and she barely reduced the deficit to 1-4. However, Ivanovic desired for a bagel victory if not then a breadstick would do and in the following two games, she held serve to
lead with 5-1 and by the seventh game was looking to break her adversary. The Japanese aimed for a forehand shot in t he seventh game but it went wayward and she erred, endorsing the game point to Ivanovic.
Ivanovic powered through the first set and set the tone for the second. Dominating from the very start Ivanovic opened the scoreboard to 1-0 in the second set and by breaking Date-Krumm in the second game she was leading with a
2-0. The scoreboard was rolled again by Ivanovic as she capitalized on a second break endorsed by her adversary and it was history repeating itself.
However, this time Date-Krumm made a comeback in the fourth game but it was a futile comeback as she was unable to close the deficit and lost track of the score. Ivanovic went on to breaking her adversary for the last time in the
sixth game and by the seventh had secured a berth in the second round by clogging another breadstick victory.
