Ana Ivanovic thrashes Alexa Glatch in opening round – Western & Southern Open 2011
Serbian Ana Ivanovic won in straight sets of a bagel (6-0) and a 6-2 victory against American Alexa Glatch at the Western and Southern Open 2011 during the main draw of the event. This was the first meeting of the two on the hard
courts of the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.
World number 17 Ivanovic opened the set and smashed 4 aces, while her American opponent (Glatch) had struck only two. Both the players and a poor precision and struck 3 break faults each; with Ivanovic hitting three foot faults
and Glatch hit 3 line faults.
Although, Glatch had 60% of her first serves on target, she had an average first serve win along with a pathetic second serve, thus in total she was only able to win a poor 36% of her total service points. Her return was worse
than her serve, unable to score more than 5 out of 18 points, making it a 28% win in her total return points.
Ivanovic had a sturdy defence and did not set up a single break point situation for her opponent; instead she broke her opponent a walloping 3 out of 4 times, while, Glatch was only able to save one break point out of the four
on her serve.
The 23 year-old Serb won the set by accomplishing almost twice as many points as her adversary’s, making it a 67% win in her total set points.
Although the crowd had cheered for the home-girl she was still unable to win a set, eventually Ivanovic bagged the second set as the tone had already been set.
23-year-old Ivanovic had only 40% of her first serves on target but with an expertise first serve performance won 8 out of 8 points, making it an ostentatious 100% win in her first serve points, along with a 67% win in the second
return, which enabled her to win a grand 80% in her total service points.
On the contrary, Glatch had only 45% win in her total service points because her performance in her serve was unsatisfactory. With an extremely pathetic display in her return, she was unable to reply back to her opponent’s shot
and hence, clinched a below the par 20% win in her total return points.
Glatch was unable to break her opponent’s serve even once through the match and the sets, Glatch lost miserably to her adversary with only 35% of her total set points achieved, against Ivanovic hwo not only broke her opponent twice
but had double the score than that of Glatch’s.
Ana Ivanovic bagged the second set by restricting her opponent to only two games and thrashed Glatch to secure a berth in the second round of the event.
