Ana Ivanovic to debut at 2012 Apia Sydney International - Tennis News
Former World No.1, Ana Ivanovic, will be featuring in Apia Sydney International tournament next year. She confirmed her attendance following her epic triumph in Tournament of Champions in Bali, Indonesia earlier this week. Sydney tournament is growing in with the inclusion of elite tennis stars and Grand Slam champions.
Ivanovic was extremely excited about her inclusion in the squad that will battle it out at Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre from 8 to 14 January next year. She was talking to the media members and proclaimed her excitement in following words “I’m very excited to have the opportunity to go back there. It is one of my favourite events and I just love Sydney. I had a great result there in 2008 when I reached the semi finals, so hopefully I can go a few steps further in 2012 and win the Apia International Sydney title”.
Craig Watson, Tournament director, was also excited to announce Ana Ivanovic as one of the participants and said “Ana has a lot of fans here and she is always very popular, so we are delighted that she will be finalising her Australian Open preparations here at the Apia International Sydney”.
Serbian had a poor start to this year as she was knocked-out in the rounds of 128 of Australian Open and couldn’t surpass the quarters of Pattaya City tournament. She couldn’t realize her prolific form and lost in the rounds of 64 in Dubai and could only make it to the quarters of Indian wells tournament before being dumped by French Marian Bartoli. She faced early exits in Miami, Fed Cup, Madrid, Rome and French Open as well.
24-year-old regained her composure and composed herself in Birmingham where she reached the semi-finals before being slammed by fourth seed Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova. She had a poor run in Eastbourne but managed to reach till the rounds of 32 in Wimbledon where she was defeated by Czech tennis ace, Petra Cetkovska.
This was one of the years to forget for Ivanovic who couldn’t settle to gain any sort of form. She had no titles to her name until Bali, this week. She couldn’t perform in the rest of the tournaments of the year except US Open where she reached the rounds of 16.
She stepped in Bali as the defending champion and left that arena as a champion. This victory will definitely boost her morale and surely help her to gain some momentum that will delight her fans all across the globe.
