Ana Ivanovic’s dismal season ends on high notes – Tennis News
“What an exciting end to the season that was. Often, after the US Open ends, thoughts turn straight away to the following season because that's when the next Grand Slam takes place: the majors are always my main focus. This season was a little different, however. It was an uncertain and at times stressful end to the year, because of this back injury I had. Thanks for the great care of my physio and fitness trainer, I was able to get myself fit for my final events, and I'm obviously delighted with how the season ended” said former world No.1, Ana Ivanovic.
This year has been pretty tough for her at tennis courts as she couldn’t win any Grand Slam title; faced early round exits in Australia Open, French Open and Wimbledon. She reached to the last 16 of US Open but couldn’t surpass that stage and hence her dream of clinching her second Grand Slam title since her 2008 triumph in Roland Garros French Open was shattered.
She never lost heart and continued to work hard during practice sessions with her newly appointed full-time coach Nigel Sears, former Head of Women’s Tennis at the Lawn Tennis Association. She was extremely delighted to work with him as she had always admired him for her matchless work in the field of tennis.
No titles to her name and the year’s last tournament was on cards. She was lucky to get a wildcard entry for that event and converted this golden opportunity into her first title win. Dismal start to the year ended with ultimate glory as Ivanovic successfully defended her Champions of Tournament title at Bali, Indonesia. She hammered Anabel Medina Garrigues on her 24th birthday, Sunday November 6th.
Serbian International celebrated her first title c*m birthday glory at ‘The St. Regis hotel’ in Bali. She followed it up with a visit to one of the most beautiful beaches of the world in Bali, swam a little and enjoyed her leisure time making it one of the memorable trips of the year.
24-year-old tennis ace plans to use new ‘Xi model’ racket from next year as she has thoroughly tested it at practice courts. She stated that this racket had more spin and speed as it had more strings and better grip. She plans to spearhead in Brisbane with this new racket, next year.
She has taken break from tennis and spending her holidays with her loved ones. Serbian ended the season as World No.22 and feeling more motivated and ecstatic about the new season; plans to resume tennis from where she left.
