Anabel Medina Garrigues cruises past Anne Kremer into 2nd round –Luxembourg Open 2011
Spaniard Anabel Medina Garrigues bombed Luxembourgian wildcard enterer Anne Kremer as she earned double bagels in her opening round match at the BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open 2011, a WTA International tier-III event taking place in the Luxembourg City in Luxembourg. She registered a mind blowing 6-0, 6-0 score line to advance into the second round on Monday.
World number 28, Garrigues outclassed the wild card entrant, ranked 187 places below her, completely after drilling her way with the help of bagels. She took just forty-six minutes to crush Kremer and to advance into the second round at these Luxembourgian indoor hard courts. The Spaniard also extended her lead in the head-to-head series by 3-0 against the Luxembourgian after earning success at this final WTA event of the season.
29-year-old blasted into the arena to wipe out all six games in a row to earn the first bagel. She smoothly plucked in entire serves without facing any strokes and converted three out of four breakpoint opportunities to her advantage to win quickly. She also clobbered a much better first serve share of 76 percent in contrast with Kremer’s 50 percent and registered a spectacular 85 percent win on it.
Garrigues carried her winning ways from the opening set to the final set as she not only held her opening serve in the second game but bagged in all six games consecutively to earn the second bagel. She again faced zero breakpoint and cashed in on all three breakpoint opportunities to her advantage. Regardless of formulating a lower first serve share this time around, she registered an impressive 67 percent win on it.
Next up for the Valencia native Garrigues is the winner of the match between Italian qualifier Karin Knapp and Romanian Monica Niculescu. She can ease past any opponent if she plays with the same determination.
Austria’s Tamira Paszek will be joining the Spaniard in the second round after dumping Russian Ekaterina Makarova in straight sets on their third meeting.
Ranked 45th in the Sony Ericsson WTA Premier rankings, Paszek warded off four out of five breakpoints encountered and capitalised on five out of nine breakpoint opportunities to her advantage to seal the deal with a 6-2, 6-2 score line. The Austrian required only one hour and seven minutes to not only advance into the second round but also took lead in the head-to-head series by 2-1 against Makarova.
