Anadolu Efes, Real Madrid and Partizan MT: S win – Euroleague Group C 7th week Review
During the seventh week of the Turkish Airlines Euro league, three games took place in Group C. Here is a brief review;
Anadolu Efes 66 - Belgacom Spirou 62
Dusko Savanovic recorded a double-double with a team-high 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds as Anadolu Efes cruised past Belgacom Spirou 66-62 for second consecutive victory on November 30, 2011 at RTL Spiroudome.
Stanko Barac added 12 points and five rebounds while Sasha Vujacic ended with 10 points and four assists for Efes.
Demond Mallet tallied a game-high 21 points and grabbed four rebounds in the loss. No other Spirou player reached double figures in the losing effort.
Efes Istanbul scored the first six points of the game to take initial lead and carried an 18-14 lead into the second. Efes limited Belgacom to just eight points in the second quarter, extending their lead to 37-22 at halftime. Mallet scored 12 of his points in the third quarter as Spirou trimmed their 15-point halftime deficit to nine, heading into the fourth, but Anadolu pushed their lead to double digits early in the last quarter and did not trail for rest of the game.
Real Madrid 72 - EA7 Emporio Armani 65
Four players reached double figures as Real Madrid became the first team of Group C to advance to the Top 16 Turkish Airlines Euroleague regular season with a 72-65 victory over EA7 Emporio Armani.
Sergio Rodriguez led Madrid with 19 points and four rebounds while Rudy Fernandez ended with 13 points in the victory. Nikola Mirotic netted 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Anti Tomic contributed 10 points for Madrid.
Danilo Gallinari headed Emporio with 13 points and Stefano Mancinelli punctuated 12 points. Drew Nicholas added 11 points while Ioannis Bourousis had 10 points in the third consecutive loss for Armani.
Madrid limited Armani to 15 points each in the first two quarters of the game and carried a 36-30 lead into the third. Both teams scored 17 points each in the third period and Real maintained their six-point lead at the end of 30 minutes of action.
In the fourth quarter, EA7 Emporio got back into the contest and trimmed their deficit to just two with two minutes to go in the game. However, Rodriguez hit a shot from downtown and nailed a pair of free throws in the closing minute to seal the victory for Madrid.
Partizan MT: S 74 - Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv 71
Milan Macvan racked up a game-high 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Partizan MT: S downed Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv 74-71 on December 01, 2011 at Pionir.
Nikola Pekovic added 17 points and forward Vladimir Lucic had 15 points and four assists in the victor. Devin Smith headed Electra Tel Aviv with 12 points and five rebounds while Jordan Farmar ended with 11 points. Sofoklis Schortsanitis totalled 10 points and five rebounds for Maccabi, who saw their five-game winning streak, snap.
Partizan got off to a good start and held a 24-17 lead after 10 minutes. Schortsanitis scored all of his 10 points in the second quarter as Electra cut their deficit to two, 39-37, at halftime. Partizan outplayed Maccabi 15-11 in the third period and pushed their lead to 54-48, but Maccabi Electra came out strong in the fourth quarter and made it a two-point contest, 70-68, before Partizan scored four consecutive points to put the game out of the reach of Maccabi.
