Anadolu Efes beat Emporio Armani 62-54 to record their second win in Euroleague
Anadolu Efes clinched their second win of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague after convincingly beating Emporio Armani 62-54 in a low scoring game played at the Mediolanumforum Arena on Thursday night.
A dismal start cost Emporio the game. They only managed to score 9 points in the first quarter and the performance haunted them until the very end.
Stanko Barac, who had a clammed up tournament so far, led the winning team with 16 points, shooting 5 for 11 from the field and 6 for 10 from the free throw line. He also grabbed 7 rebounds; Tarence Kinsey continued with his good
form, missing a double-double by just a bristle with 13 points and 8 rebounds. New Jersey Nets player Sasha Vujacic also added 12 points.
Double-double machine Ioannis Bourousis from Emporio Armani lived up to his reputation and scored his second double-double in three games. He scored 11 points and forced out 10 rebounds on the night. Denver Nuggets star Danilo
Gallinari was the highest scorer from the side and ended with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Other big guns, Malik Hairston and Drew Nicholas failed to make any impact in the game.
Tarence Kinsey started the proceedings and scored three consecutive layups in the first three minutes of the game to provide a 6 point lead to Anadolu. Emporio’s offense looked anything but threatening in the first seven minutes
as they only managed to score 4 points. The drought was ended by Malik Hairston, who scored two points on free throws, however Emporio failed to find baskets on regular occasions and by the end of quarter, were left trailing by 13 points 22-9.
An early strike by Stanko in the second quarter extended the lead to 15 points however in the next five minutes, Emporio made a mini comeback, constituting a 6 point run to slash the deficit to 9 points. They also managed to hold
Anadolu players from scoring only allowing them to score 11 points in the quarter.
However because of the first quarter lead, Anadolu, despite under performing in the second, ended the first half with a 12 point lead, 33-21.
The third quarter belonged to Emporio.
Their defense looked deep and with Omar Cook and Gallinari scoring in quick successions, the deficit was reduced to only two points by the 7th minute of quarter 34-36.
However, Emporio failed to take advantage of this momentum and only managed to score 2 points in the remaining 3 minutes. Anadolu kept on chipping though and by the end of the quarter, they were gain leading by a healthy 11 point
margin: 47-36.
Drew and Danilo scored quick points and got Emporio close in the fourth and after the first four minutes, the scores were standing at 47-44, advantage Anadolu. However a 9 point run by Anadolu sealed the game for them as the lead
extended to 12 points with only over two minutes remaining in the game.
