Anaheim Duck legendary player, Teemu Selanne announces return with team for final season -NHL Update
Teemu Selanne, Anaheim Ducks legendary Finnish player, finally made his highly anticipated announcement and made it known to the world that he will be playing with his long time team for another National Hockey League (NHL) season, which will be the 41-year-olds
19th.
After being eliminated during round-one of the 2011 NHL Playoffs, Selanne announced that he may not be coming back for another season, which came as a shocker to most, observing that last season was one of the best he has had in the past few years.
Finishing eighth overall in the league last season with an impressive 80 point (31 goals, 49 assists) record, Selanne went through a process of lengthy thinking and discussion with various people.
It was his performance last season, which inducted his name into one of the highest scoring veterans of all-time, which was the factor in making a final decision.
Selanne made the announcement on Thursday, September 15, via video on Anaheim Ducks official website, in which he prioritised fans.
"You guys knew I can't stop playing yet, so I'm back at least one more season", Selanne said . "My middle name is 'One More,' and we start the season in Helsinki, so see you there".
After the announcement, a number of news agencies reported and confirmed the news that the Helsinki, Finland native, had signed a one-year contract worth $4 million.
Going through a number of injuries throughout his career, Selanne underwent another knee surgery recently during the offseason in Finland, which ultimately would be the decider in him making a comeback or not.
Luckily, there is good news about that.
"I'm very happy that my knee has recovered from surgery and is ready for the season", Selanne said in a statement. "I'm excited and optimistic about what this team can do and thankful to have another opportunity to play in Anaheim".
Having won his first Stanley Cup championship with Anaheim in 2007, Selanne hopes to make this season a remake of that.
With the return of one of the NHL’s most coveted players, Teemu Selanne has certainly added much excitement to the next upcoming season, which is already jam-packed with anticipation.
