Anaheim Ducks Bobby Ryan not planning on going anywhere -NHL Lockout Update
While many players around the National Hockey League (NHL) thought it was better to move on and continue staying sharp by playing with teams abroad in foreign leagues, Anaheim Ducks top level right winger, Bobby Ryan, is focusing on staying put and has no
plans on travelling overseas anytime soon.
Being one of the, if not the first player to have come out and take a stance different to that of others by terming his fellow colleagues decision of leaving during the lockout a wrong one, Ryan is setting an example of standing ground and fighting for his
rights right here.
Travelling back to New Jersey, the 25-year-old plans on continuing to practice with other players and keep himself fit for whenever the lockout does finally come to an end instead of signing on in either Germany, Switzerland or Russia, like many other have
done.
"I'm going to continue to skate with the guys," Ryan told the New Jersey Courier-Post. "Whether it's coming back here (to South Jersey) for a couple weeks at a time. I think it's important to stay here (in the United States) and be part of the solution and
not just run from it."
According to the native of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, going abroad to play only weakens the Players’ Association back home and he has no plans on weakening their stance than it already is by leaving them now.
"I'm going to handle things the way I think things should be handled," said Ryan.
Ryan is currently set to enter his third year in a five-year, $25.5 million contract that was signed with the Anaheim Ducks prior to the 2010-2011 regular season. He is one of the best forward players in the league and a very valuable asset for the Southern
California team.
The young right winger was drafted by Anaheim as the second overall back in 2005 and has played in five straight seasons with the Ducks up until now. He has 332 games under his belt and 259 points (136 goals, 123 assists) to his name as well.
It will be interesting to see how Bobby Ryan continues to act during the lockout and whether or not his stance will influence the outcome of the negotiation process going on right now.
