Anaheim Ducks assign Devante Smith-Pelly, Kyle Palmieri to AHL -NHL Update
The Anaheim Ducks assigned two prospects to their America Hockey League (AHL) affiliate team in Norfolk on Friday, September 14, 2012, in order for them to develop into more mature players for the upcoming years in the National Hockey League (NHL).
Smith-Pelly is a native of Scarborough, Ontario, Canada and was picked up by the Anaheim Duck back in round-two as the 42nd overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. The 20-year-old appeared in the 2011-2012 NHL regular season with the Anaheim Ducks
and played 49 games, while registering 7 goals and 6 assist for a total of 13 points. He also had 16 minutes in penalty time.
Prior to joining the Anaheim Ducks, Smith-Pelly was a well known player for the Mississaugu St. Michael’s Majors in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) as he had 66 points (36 goals, 30 assists) in 67 games played.
Kyle Palmieri on the other hand, is a former 26th overall pick of the first round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Anaheim Ducks. The native of Smithtown, New York, United States, has played in two seasons with the Anaheim Ducks but has not
managed to impress the team as of yet to allow them to keep him on for future seasons.
Back in 2010-2011, he played in 10 game and potted one goal. The next season brought 18 games for him and seven points with four of those being goals while the remaining three were assists and six minutes in penalty time.
He had spent a major amount of time with the University of Notre Dame before joining the Anaheim franchise and played with the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL in rotation with the major league team.
Both players are expected to be back maybe during the upcoming regular season if it is not locked out for good. They will continue playing in order to develop their skills and just might have to work for their money since many big name players may also be
shifted to the minor league in the coming days due to the looming lockout in the league at the moment.
