Anaheim Ducks beat the struggling Edmonton Oilers 4-0
The play-off surging Anaheim Ducks comprehensively beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-0 at the Rexall Place on Sunday. As expected, the game was one sided as the Ducks started superbly from the start, scoring in the very first minute. The team managed to score goals
in each of the remaining two periods, as they cruised to an easy victory. The Ducks winger, Bobby Ryan, was named the star selection of the game as he scored two magnificent goals.
The game started with the Oilers trying a goal attempt, which the Ducks countered and went on the attack, scoring through their very first shot. The goal was scored by Teemu Selanne from a brilliant tip in shot.
The Oilers, after much of the period on the back foot, started to grow in strength as the period was nearing its end. They were unable to find a way past the Duck’s defence. The Ducks also attacked with full force, with 7 goal attempts to the Oilers 5 attempts.
The first period ended with the Ducks leading 1-0.
The second period started on the back foot for both teams. They waited for chances to come their way which did not materialise. The period lacked any focus as both teams kept possession and preferred long range shooting.
The Ducks, being the stronger of the two teams began to show their frustration and mounted several attacks on goal. Chances started to come for both teams, but it was the Ducks who scored their second goal in the 16th minute from a tip in shot
by Brandon McMillan.
The Ducks managed to pile on the pressure and scored once again in the very next minute from a decent strike by Bobby Ryan to take the score to 3-0. There were a few more goal attempts by both teams, but unfortunately none of the shots found the back of
the net. The period ended with the Ducks leading 3-0 as they made 7 goal attempts in the period with the Oilers only managing 4.
The final 20 minutes of the game were a reflection of the previous two periods, as the Oilers were extremely weak on offence and were unable to come near the opposing goal. The Ducks, despite being at a disadvantage, scored again in the second minute, as
Bobby Ryan scored his second goal for the night. The team changed their players, as they knew that the game had been won.
The final period saw the Ducks coming close to scoring on a few occasions, but they were unable to capitalise on these chances. The Ducks made 8 goal attempts compared to the Oiler’s meagre 3 attempts. The Ducks proved once again, that they are the team
to watch as they flex their superiority over the weaker teams.
