Anaheim Ducks defeat New York Rangers 5-2
Corey Perry and Lubomir Visnovsky each netted two goals and had an assist, as the Anaheim Ducks thrashed the New York Rangers 5-2, at the Honda Centre on Wednesday night.
Bobby Ryan also notched a goal and earned three assists, while Dan Ellis stopped 30 shots for Anaheim, who have won four of their previous five games.
Marian Gaborik and Brandon Dubinsky both found the back of the net for New York, who had won their last two games. Henrik Lundqvist allowed all five goals on 33 shots in the losing effort.
The Rangers got the scoring started to take a 1-0 lead just three and half minutes into the opening stanza, as Dubinsky ripped a snap shot from the right wing and beat Ellis for his 20th goal for New York.
However, the Ducks used a three-goal burst in the same period to take command of the game.
Anaheim then tied the game at 1-1 nearly seven and a half minutes into the first period, as Perry fired a shot towards the net from the right side, before the puck caromed off Dan Girardi’s skate and went into the net.
The Ducks took the lead at 2-1 just before the midway mark of the first period. Visnovsky ripped a one-timer from the right point, which sailed past Lundqvist, who could not stop it due to a screen in front.
Visnovsky struck again to give the Ducks a two-goal edge at 3-1, with 41 seconds remaining in the first period, as he blasted a slap shot from the high slot that banked off a Ranger’s stick and went into the net.
Bobby Ryan praised his team-mates after the game. He said, "We did a good job in their zone all night. We had them running around on the cycle a little bit and we did a great job putting discs behind their D.
He added, "So it was tough for them to regroup and make plays. We were physical all night long and got in front of Lundqvist and were making it tough for him to see shots."
Lundqvist made 13 saves and Ellis stopped 11 shots to keep the middle frame goalless.
Early in the third period, Ellis dove to his right to make an incredible stick save on Dubinsky’s shot. The Ducks then extended their lead to 4-1 just two minutes into the third period, as Anaheim moved the other way on a 2-on-1 rush. Perry swept the puck
from the right side to the left for Ryan, who jammed it home with a wrist shot.
Gaborik pulled the Rangers to within another goal on a power play to cut the deficit to 4-2, just over three minutes later, but the Rangers failed to find an equaliser.
Perry accounted for the final scoring at 5-2 with his 33rd goal of the season with nearly five and a half minutes left in the game.
