Anaheim Ducks defeat the Colorado Avalanche 5-4 – NHL Recap
The final and second game of Monday was played at the Honda Centre as the Anaheim Ducks won 5-4 against the struggling Colorado Avalanche. The game saw the Avalanche playing the spoilers, as they are out of the National Hockey League play-off picture while
the Ducks occupy the final play-off spot in the Western Conference and needed to win if they wanted to maintain their place.
The game started off with the Avalanche coming up with some strong offensive displays that resulted in them scoring two early goals. Though their defence was vulnerable at times, but they did not allow any goals and the Avalanche still led at the end of
the period. The second period saw the Ducks making a spectacular start and scoring three goals to get into the lead. The Avalanche also bagged a goal as the period neared its end to level the score. The final 20 minutes of play saw the Ducks scoring twice
while the Avalanche scored once. The Ducks won the game the game 5-4 in the end. Teemu Selanne of the Ducks was named the Star of the Game, as he scored three goals and made two assists.
The Avalanche put the foot on the gas right from the start and created several scoring chances. The Avalanche managed to score in the fourth minute through Ryan O’Reilly during the power-play to get into the lead.
The Avalanche displayed some very strong passing and shooting that saw them scoring once again in the sixth minute through Matt Duchene to double their lead from a well placed flick-shot. The period saw the Ducks totally dominating the game after this.
However, despite the fact that they had more than a dozen shots on goal they failed to find the back of the net. The period ended with the Avalanche leading 2-0.
The second period began with the Ducks continuing to dominate, as they scored in the very first minute through Selanne to cut the lead to a single goal. The Ducks scored once again in the fifth minute through Jason Blake to level the score.
The 10th minute of the period saw the Ducks scoring once again through Selanne to get into the lead. The Avalanche were able to come up with some decent attacks as well that saw them bagging a goal in the 16th minute through David Jones
to level the score 3-3, as the period ended with no further goals.
The period saw the Ducks scoring in the third minute to get into the lead with Cam Fowler scoring during the power-play. The Ducks scored in the 16th minute once again through Selanne. Though the Avalanche scored through Paul Stastny, but they
fell short by a goal as the Ducks won the game 5-4.
