Anaheim Ducks defeat the Dallas Stars 4-3 – NHL Recap
Cam Fowler recorded the game-winner in the extra session, as the Anaheim Ducks remained hot with a 4-3 victory against the Dallas Stars, at the American Airlines Centre on Wednesday night.
Teemu Selanne and Corey Perry each notched a goal for Anaheim, which has won four consecutive games and is now in eighth place in the National Hockey League Western Conference.
Lubomir Visnovsky also tallied a goal and an assist, while Ray Emery turned away 23 shots to earn the victory.
"Good things happen when you believe in yourself. Team confidence is always the key. Whether you're up two goals or down two goals, you've gotta believe you'll win." said Selanne.
Loui Eriksson and Alex Goligoski both found the back of the net for Dallas, which has lost four of its previous five contests. Trevor Daley also added a goal and Kari Lehtonen stopped 22 shots in the losing effort.
"We've talked about improving each and every game," said Stars head coach Marc Crawford. "You know, we're in game 73 here and when we're in game 82 we'll still have things to improve on."
After a scoreless opening period, Anaheim drew first blood for a 1-0 lead on a power-play just 56 seconds into the middle session. The goal came when Visnovsky ripped a slap-shot from the left circle that found its way home through traffic in front.
Dallas knotted the game at 1-1 midway through the second period, when Goligoski fired a shot from the slot into the upper right corner of the net.
The Stars went on top, 2-1, just 4 minutes into the final period, when they won a right circle faceoff and Jamie Langenbrunner swept a pass from the right corner through the a defender’s legs and to the front of the net, where Eriksson buried the puck into
the goal.
The Ducks, tied the game at 2-2 just 11 seconds later. The goal was set up by Bobby Ryan, who grabbed the puck down in the neutral zone, rushed down the left wing and slipped a back-hander to the front where Perry lifted a shot into the net.
The Stars notched a 3-2 lead again with nearly 6 minutes left, as Daley blasted a shot from the right circle and Emery nearly stopped it, but it retained enough momentum to trickle into the net.
Ducks pulled an equalizer, 3-3, in the last seconds of the third period, as Saku Koivu carried it out front and the puck trickled to the left of the net and Selanne jammed it home.
Fowler accounted for the final scoring 4-3 just 1:42 into the extra session, as he sent a pass to Ryan. After crossing the blue line, Ryan dished it from the right to the left circle, where Fowler knocked the puck into the net with a wrist shot.
