Anaheim Ducks defeat the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 in over-time – NHL Recap
The Anaheim Ducks beat the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 in over-time at the Honda Centre on Wednesday. The Ducks needed a victory to near a National Hockey League play-off spot, as they had a huge task of overpowering the second seeded Red Wings in the Western
Conference.
The game was very close from the start, but as the action caught pace, the Red Wings took the lead at the end of the second period. The Ducks scored the only goal of the final period to level the game at the end. The game went into over-time where the Ducks
scored again to win the game 2-1. Bobby Ryan of the Ducks was named the Star of the Game, as he scored the winning goal in over-time.
The first period start off with the Ducks on top of their game, as both their defence and offence were very strong. They managed to restrict the opposing team to almost nothing during the course of the period. The Ducks had scoring chances, but they failed
to take advantage of some open spaces at the back.
The Red Wings were completely on the back foot, as the Ducks gave them absolutely no space to work. The period saw the Ducks on a high, as they piled up shots on goal. However, no goals were scored as the period ended level on 0-0. During the course of the
first period, the Ducks made 8 goal attempts, as the Red Wings were restricted to just three shots on goal.
The second period started off with the Red Wings piling a lot of pressure early on, as they came across a power-play which saw them scoring in the 6th minute through a quick fired shot from Pavel Datsyuk.
Both teams were much more effective on the offence during the course of the period, but they were not able to find the back of the net. Some of the scoring chances they got could have been easily capitalised, but they failed to score as the period ended
with the Red Wings leading 1-0. During the course of the second period, the Red Wings made 15 goal attempts, as the Ducks managed to make 10.
The final 20 minutes of play saw the two teams pretty much even when it came to goal attempts, but it was the Ducks who struck early in the period in the third minute through Jason Blake from a well placed shot to level the scores.
There were quite a few shots on goal, but no goals were scored as the period ended with scores level and the Red Wings making 10 goal attempts, as the Ducks managed 9.
The game saw the Ducks scoring in over-time through Bobby Ryan to win 2-1.
