Anaheim Ducks defeat the Los Angeles King 2-1 in over-time – NHL Recap
The Anaheim Ducks beat the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 in over-time at the Staples Centre on Saturday. Both teams are in the National Hockey League play-off cut, but need a victory as the final few positions in the Western Conference are separated by only a point
or two.
The game had a good start, but it was the Ducks who scored late in the first period to get into the lead. The second period saw both teams coming out strong, but there was lack of finishing in which not a single goal was scored. The final 20 minutes of play
saw the Kings grabbing the lone goal of the period to level the score. The game went into over-time, as the Ducks scored to win the game 2-1. Ducks winger, Corey Perry, was named the Star of the Game, as he scored the game winning goal.
Both teams made a decent start to the game, as they came across some easy scoring chances, but failed to find the back of the net early on. The Ducks got better with the passage of time, as they were able to score in the 16th minute through Brandon
McMillan to get into the lead. The goal was a result of a brilliant flick-shot that went flying into the back of the net. The period saw both teams making a few more shots on goal, but no further goals were scored as the teams were level on 1-1 into the break.
The second period was again started on the productive side by both teams when it came to goal attempts. With the passage of time, the attacks intensified and the shots increased, as did the play-making. The period did not see any goals, as the Ducks made
8 shots on goal and the Kings managed 13 attempts.
The Kings managed to score a brilliant goal in the 12th minute through Dustin Brown to level the score in the final period. The Kings made 11 shots on goal compared to the six by the Ducks. With the scores level, the game went into over-time.
During over-time, the Ducks scored through Corey Perry in the second minute to win the game 2-1. It will be interesting to see how the Ducks carry their winning momentum forward into the last few games remaining in the regular season.
