Anaheim Ducks forward Jason Blake suffers arm injury, replaced by Patrick Maroon -NHL News Update
Anaheim Ducks lost their veteran left winger, Jason Blake, on Friday, October 14, during their matchup against San Jose Sharks after the 38-year-old suffered a severe cut on his left forearm causing tendon damage, resulting in him expected miss at least
three months to the recovery process.
"This was an unfortunate, freak accident, but we are pleased to hear that Jason is expected to make a full and complete recovery", Anaheim Ducks general manager, Bob Murray, said. "He's a real character person and teammate, and we look forward to having
him back in our line-up when he's ready".
While a face-off took place nearly midway through Friday’s matchup, Blake and San Jose’s defenseman, Brent Burn’s, fought for control of the puck which resulted in the defender accidentally stepping on the veteran’s left forearm with his skate and cutting
it while he was down.
In order to fill in the gap left by their experienced forward, Anaheim recalled 23-year-old Patrick Maroon, on Sunday before their matchup with St. Louis Blues, from their farm club in the American Hockey League (AHL), Syracuse Crunch.
Being  a player who annually pots 30 plus points a season will be a great loss for Anaheim, but in return, it will be Maroon’s gain as he finally gets a chance to make an impression in the major league with one of the top teams’.
Last season, the undrafted Moorhead, Minnesota, United States native, potted 32 points (16 goals, 16 assists) in 76 matchups and had played all three games with Anaheim during the new 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season.
Blake has also been diagnosed with cancer in October of 2007, but works hard to play every night and be consistent at what he does and is currently under the treatment process of that as well.
At the moment, Jason Blake is signed on to a five-year deal, which came into play before the 2007-2008 season and will last through this season, making him an unrestricted free agent. The deal is worth $20 million, with an annual salary cap hit of $4 million.
