Anaheim Ducks hold on for 1-0 over San Jose Sharks
Jonas Hiller made 37 saves to record his second straight shutout, while Bobby Ryan scored the game’s only goal to give the Anaheim Ducks a hard-fought 1-0 win over the San Jose Sharks. The result means Hiller has not conceded a goal in 154 minutes and 50
seconds.
Both teams started the game off in spectacular fashion, as they fired shots at the opposition’s goal and came up with some brilliant pieces of play. It looked as if a goal was on the way, but both sides maintained a tight defence as well.
The amazing thing in the period was that both teams came up with smooth and free flowing play. The fans enjoyed the match and cheered as both teams picked up the pace, and produced some frantic end-to-end action. The only thing the period was lacking was
goals, and that was due to the fact that the defence was at the top of its game. The period ended goalless with the San Jose Sharks making 12 goal attempts, while the Anaheim Ducks made eight goal attempts.
The second period followed the same pattern as the first period. Both teams continued to attack but the defence was able to deal with the opposition’s offensive line. However, San Jose Sharks started to come up with the occasional slip ups in defence.
The away side was punished for this in the 15th minute, when the Anaheim Ducks scored through a brilliant Bobby Ryan flick shot to take the lead. The San Jose Sharks tried to hit back quickly, and fired a number of shots on goal but failed to
get themselves back into the game.
The period ended with the Anaheim Ducks leading 1-0 heading into the break. During the 20 minutes of play the San Jose Sharks made 15 goal attempts, while Anaheim Ducks made 12 goal attempts.
The final 20 minutes of play saw both teams start off with a defensive approach, but with the passage of time they shifted into attack mode. Anaheim were trying to seal the game, while the Sharks were looking to tie the scores and take the game to overtime.
There were several goal scoring opportunities for both sides but they failed to take advantage.
The Anaheim Ducks made 8 goal attempts, while San Jose Sharks made 10 goal attempts in the period, but no goals were scored as the Anaheim Ducks won the match 1-0.
