Anaheim Ducks plays host to the New York Rangers in their lone meeting of the season
The final game of Thursday will be hosted by Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Centre as they face New York Rangers.
This will be the lone meeting between the two sides this season.
The last time these two met, Rangers came up with a dominating performance which saw them winning the game by 3-0.
Rangers are coming across some very tough competition as their play-off spot is in jeopardy. They have seen some very strong performances from teams below them which makes the win for them all the more important.
Ducks, on the other hand, are outside the top eight and looking to notch up some important points as they look to make their way back into the play-off cut.
The last seven games that they have played on home haven’t been as productive as expected which has seen their chances getting slimmer. During the course of the seven games home stand, Ducks could manage only three wins in regulation time.
They lost two games and secured a point in one game. Though this isn’t bad but considering the fact that things have heated up in the Conference, they have definitely lost a lot of ground and have to come up with some good results if they want to finish
in the cut.
Ducks had come up with three straight wins but after that they had no answer for the strong Canucks offence and defence.
The defence restricted Ducks to almost nothing and they scored three goals to win the game by 3-0.
"We have to reevaluate, sit back and take a look at the things we did wrong and right," Ducks’ coach, Randy Carlyle, said. "We'll present that to them. I talked to them after the game. I told them they just didn't play well enough to win the hockey game.
We have to accept responsibility for that. We have been on an emotional rollercoaster and have played lots of hockey. Every game is very important."
Ducks have played 66 games during the course of the season out of which he has won 35 games in regulation time and five games in overtime to score a total of 75 points.
Rangers have played 68 games during the season out of which they have won 35 games in regulation time and four games and scored a total of 74 games.
Rangers were going through some tough times during which they lost three consecutive games.
However, they came up with a dominating performance which saw them winning the game 7-0 against the Philadelphia Flyers in the end.
"You could feel that it was like a playoff game here today, the crowd was definitely into it," said Lundqvist, who made 24 saves. "And it was a good win. We needed this one badly here at home before going out on a road trip."
