Anaheim Ducks rookie Cam Fowler hoping to continue amazing team with performance -NHL News Update
Cam Fowler, Anaheim Ducks 19-year-old rookie defenseman has certainly given the Western Conference franchise a bang for their buck after they signed him on before the beginning of the last 2010-2011 season. Some might consider it a fluke, but according to
Fowler, he just hopes that he will keep on getting better.
Currently headed to his second season, part of his three-year, entry-level contract worth $2.7 million, the 12th overall draft pick during round-one of the 2010 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft has certainly amazed his team.
Last season, Fowler put up 40 points (10 goals, 30 assists) in 76 games played and participated in all of Anaheim’s playoff matchups during the 2011 NHL Western Conference quarterfinals by registering four points (1 goal, 3 assists) in six contests.
Seeing the numbers he can put up, Ducks head coach, Randy Carlyle, just hopes that it will be up hill from here and not the opposite.
"You have to recognize that he's only a second-year player and he hasn't turned 20 yet," Carlyle told NHL.com. "He's got a lot of hockey in front of him. We think if he can come in and duplicate what he did last year that we'd be satisfied with that. We
don't want to put any more pressure on him to say he's got to be this or he's got to be that -- he just has to come in and be Cam Fowler".
Living what most kids his age only dream about, Fowler is confident of his playing abilities, especially since the team is not planning on pressurising him in any way.
"I had a good talk with the coaches and management, and I think the general consensus is they don't want to put too much pressure on me”, Fowler added.
Hailing from Windsor, Ontario, Canada, Cam Fowler has also participated recently in the World Championships with Team USA and has a long road ahead of him.
Keeping that in mind, Fowler can eventually develop into a top rated player for Anaheim Ducks and as some players retire overtime, it will be him who must take the lead and set the bar high for other performers.
