Anaheim Ducks rout San Jose Sharks 5-3 -NHL Update
The rebounds worked great for Anaheim in their matchup with state rival team, San Jose, as the Ducks fired in the blocked shots with the opposing goalie on the ice to take down Sharks, 5-3, on Monday night, March 19, 2012, at the sold-out HP Pavilion in
San Jose, California.
Anaheim, as much as they want to get back into the intense playoff race, might just manage to do so if they stay perfect in their upcoming matchups, which seems highly unlikely.
San Jose kept up with the rowdy Anaheim team in the opening 20 minutes but as the game progressed, the Sharks lost that momentum.
"The lack of energy and jump that we had as a team was baffling," Sharks’ coach, Todd McLellan, said. "It really is. When we're supposed to be as desperate as we are apparently. I can't figure out why we didn't have that jump. Some nights when you don't
have it you have to rely on your hockey sense and your brain to put you in position to be successful. We didn't have that going either."
Martin Havlat put San Jose ahead with the opening goal on a power play, followed by the rebound shot by Bobby Ryan at 7:15. Ryane Clowe made the tie-breaker nearly midway through but Francois Beauchemin was right there to level it once again on the added
man advantage.
Corey Perry and Nate Guenin scored two straight for Anaheim in round-two with a minor disturbance by Joe Pavelski but Kyle Palmieri gave the puck right back to Anaheim with the last of the night 18:02 into the second.
"Our team has a lot of pride, we've played hard from January on," Anaheim coach, Bruce Boudreau, said. "Whenever you can derail a California team -- you like to do it."
There is no telling where Anaheim could be heading as they have the next three at home, the first being against Western Conference leading, St. Louis Blues on Wednesday.
San Jose also has hopes of making the comeback into number eight and is now only a point away from tying Colorado Avalanche for the final spot. They have the chance as they face-off against Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday.
