Anaheim Ducks sign Defenseman Bryan Rodney to one-year, two-way contract –NHL offseason Update
Coming out of three straight seasons with Carolina Hurricanes, 27-year-old defenseman, Bryan Rodney, signed with Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday, to a one-year, two-way contract, after failing to come to a mutual agreement with the Carolina management on the first
five days of the 2011 National Hockey League's (NHL) free agency.
The one-year, two-way contract will award Rodney a $525,000 salary for playing in the NHL and $250,000 for the American Hockey League (AHL).
From London, Ontario, Canada, Rodney was part of the famous Ottawa 67’s during the 2000-2001 and 2001-2002 seasons. In total he played 95 games with them and potted 26 points, (3 goals, 23 assists) throughout that time frame.
Rodney continued in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with Kingston Frontenacs for three straight seasons.
Over time, Rodney played with London Knights, then entered the AHL to play with London Knights followed by Hartford Wolf pack, Charlotte Checkers in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), Columbia Inferno and Elmira Jackals until being picked up by major league
franchise, Carolina Hurricanes.
He played only eight games with Carolina and potted two assists in that time and shifted to their AHL affiliate club, Albany River Rats to play another 58 games with them in which he potted 36 points (3 goals, 33 assists).
The following season, Rodney registered a career high of 11 points (1 goal, 10 assists) in the NHL while playing 22 games with Hurricanes.
He finished off the season with Albany River Rats, playing 54 games and recording 35 points (7 goals, 28 assists).
Last season, Rodney played only three games with Carolina and did not record a single point, which would obviously mean that Hurricanes would not extend his contract any further.
In total, Rodney has played 33 NHL games throughout his career and registered 13 points (1 goal, 12 assists).
It is not sure whether Anaheim will immediately play Rodney in their line-up when the new season starts, but it is certain that he will be most likely used as a recall while playing for their farm team.
Rodney is young, but he still has a lot to prove to the league.
