Anaheim Ducks sign teenager rookie Hampus Lindholm for three years in a two way deal –NHL Update
Anaheim Ducks have signed 18-year-old rookie Hampus Lindholm on a three-year entry-level contract.
The Swedish defenseman was signed in a two-way deal which means he will play for either Anaheim Ducks in the National Hockey League (NHL) or their affiliates in the American Hockey League (AHL), the Norfolk Admirals.
Hampus Lindholm still has one year left on his previous contract to end which is with Rogle BK and would keep him in Elitserien Hockey League in Sweden for one more year, this contract was signed in March of 2012. But he is expected to join Anaheim Ducks
in September and attend their pre-season training camp.
Lindholm will get $925,000 per year for playing in NHL for Anaheim Ducks and if he plays for Norfolk Admirals in the AHL, would get $70,000 in one year. But it is still not decided whether he would be playing for Anaheim Ducks or Norfolk Admirals as it would
be decided after watching his performance in the last one year at Rogle BK and his performance at the training camp or during the pre-season activities.
Anaheim Ducks’ General Manager, Bob Murray, and their head coach, Bruce Boudreau, will most probably keep their eyes on him and follow his progress to take a decision on him and decide the youngster’s fate.
Hampus Lindholm was part of the Sweden’s Under-18 International Hockey team that won Silver Medal in the 2012 International Ice-Hockey Federation World Under-18 championships which was held in Czech Republic.
The Sweden Hockey team were runner-up as they lost in the final to United States Under-18 Hockey Team in a very one sided match which was won 7-0 by U.S.A but Lindholm’s performance throughout the tournament was very impressive as he helped Sweden reach
finals after topping their group and beating Finland in the semi-finals.
Swedish defenseman had also helped Rogle BK promote to the highest league in the Sweden last year, after they were demoted to the 2nd division league the previous year. During his two-year stay with Rogle BK, he has played 87 matches, scoring
six goals, putting up 19 assists and a total of 25 points. So Ducks would be hoping that he has another good one year with Rogle BK and improves more before joining them.
