Anaheim Ducks snap three-game losing streak, edge Minnesota Wild 3-2 -NHL Match Update
After winning four straight, Anaheim lost their momentum and ended up losing three in a row against teams which should not be a problem for the all-star line-up, but the Ducks changed up their playing and edged the Minnesota Wild, 3-2, Thursday night, October
27, at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States.
Anaheim has blamed their past few on the number of power play opportunities they give to the other team, which again tonight allowed the opposing team a chance to score two goals on, otherwise which could have been a complete shutout situation.
"We just executed right to the finish", Anaheim Ducks captain, Ryan Getzlaf, said of the struggling power play. "We've been working pretty hard during the last little while on getting pucks to the net and do all the little things, but tonight we got rewarded
for it".
One thing different this time around was that Anaheim did give many chances with a player down, but they also capitalised on two of the chances they were given with added players on the ice whenever Minnesota performers were penalised.
"Our motto is practice [the power play] every possible chance we can", Anaheim head coach, Randy Carlyle, said. "Whether it is against pressure or with no pressure, it is just puck movement. We have four or five staples that we try to do, even if there's
no resistance”.
Corey Perry scored his fourth of the season, nearly midway through the first after Minnesota’s Darroll Powe was called for holding and sent packing to the benches with a minor.
Bobby Ryan extended the lead 7:01 into the next 20 minutes but was followed by Jared Spurgeon, who finally put the home team on the scoreboard on a power play opportunity of their own.
Ryan Getzlaf took advantage of Minnesota playing without Kyle Brodziak and scored 18 seconds after he was sent out. 10 minutes later, Matt Cullen brought the home team within levelling it on one of Anaheim’s penalties, but in vain since they were not able
to score after that.
Anaheim has five games remaining on their road trip with the Nashville Predators next on Saturday while the Minnesota Wild will face-off against the Detroit Red Wings the same day.
