Anaheim Ducks stay cold with fifth straight loss to Phoenix Coyotes 4-2 -NHL Match Update
Phoenix added to Anaheim’s woes by handing them down their fifth straight loss in the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) as the Coyotes fought off the Ducks, 4-2, on Wednesday night, November 23, 2011, at the Jobing.com Arena in Glendale Arizona, United
States.
Even with one of the best offensive teams in the entire league, Anaheim continues to struggle and now they sit at the number 14 spot of the Western Conference with only 16 points, barely ahead of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Anaheim Ducks head coach, Randy Carlyle, might be frustrated at the situation his team is currently stuck in but is determined to find a way out.
"We've got to find a way," Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. "We were not being aggressive enough, simple enough from my standpoint. They've got to skate. We've got people that can skate. We've got people that can get involved physically."
Saku Koivu kicked off the scoring at the 5:44 mark in the opening period for his fourth of the season while the Phoenix Coyotes answered back with two straight by Keith Yandle and Radim Vrbata for his 10th on their second power play opportunity
of the night.
Radim Vrbata followed in the second period by adding another goal back-to-back with less than three minutes remaining to give the home team a comfortable lead entering the third and final period of regulation.
"You guys keep asking me the same question," said Vrbata, who leads the Phoenix Coyotes with the highest number of goals as of yet. "You need some luck to score goals in this league and right now I'm getting a little bit of luck."
Oliver Ekman-Larsson made the insuring shot for the Phoenix Coyotes at the 4:27 mark of the third period, reassuring the crowd that they were not going to give up in the final moments like their previous matchups, while Corey Perry of Anaheim finalised the
scoring with their last.
Anaheim hopes to get out of the hold they have dug themselves when they face the Chicago Blackhawks at home while the Coyotes will be hosting the Vancouver Canucks on Friday.
