Anaheim Ducks stay hot with third straight win over Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 -NHL Update
Anaheim has continued to show great hope for the closing in playoffs as Ducks won their third straight and fifth of the past eight against Pittsburgh Penguins, 2-1, on Wednesday night, February 15, 2011, at the sold-out CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania.
The Ducks played their second matchup in back-to-back nights after they came out of a 2-1 win against Minnesota Wild. Facing a major slump before the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) All-Star Game break, Anaheim has definitely gotten back in form and is
on their way to capturing a playoff spot soon.
Anaheim currently stands at number 13 in the Western Conference with 57 points but a couple of more consecutive wins will take them above the playoff divisional line.
Jordan Staal put Pittsburgh ahead with his 17th of the 2011-2012 regular season nearly midway through the opening period on an assist by Pascal Dupuis while Corey Perry came back to respond at the 19:08 mark of the second, levelling the contest
1-1.
With less than 13 minutes remaining in the final period of regulation, veteran Anaheim forward and legend, Teemu Selanne fired in the game-winning goal for his 19th of the season, giving Anaheim a much deserved win.
Ducks’ goalie, Jonas Hiller, stayed firm in net with his 25 save performance and letting only one shot through throughout the contest while Pittsburgh counterpart, Marc-Andre Fleury, failed on two of 29 attempts.
Former Washington Capitals head coach, Bruce Boudreau, certainly deserves some credit as the team he joined after being fired from the East, has shown amazing progress making it one of the potential comebacks of the season that should not be underestimated.
As this season is set to be Teemu Selanne’s last, the Anaheim team is fired up to take the player to his last playoff competition and maybe even a Stanley Cup championship if they try hard enough.
Anaheim have four more on the road and must remain consistent if they hope of getting near the playoff line, with the next being against New Jersey Devils on Friday.
Pittsburgh had their two-game winning streak snapped by the Ducks and hope for a rebound against Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday.
