Anaheim Ducks thrash New York Rangers by 5-2 to surprise everyone - NHL Recaps
The final game of Thursday was played at the Honda Center as the Anaheim Ducks played host to the New York Rangers.
Rangers needed points to cement their position in the play-off cut while Ducks were looking to crawl their way back into the game.
The Rangers scored the early goal to take the lead but the Ducks fought their way back into the game scoring thrice to lead the game 3-1 at the end of the period.
The second period ended goalless. However, the Ducks scored twice in the final period while the Rangers scored once.
In the end, it was the Ducks who won the game 5-2 in the end. Lubomir Visnovsky, defenceman of the Ducks was named the star of the game as he scored two goals and made an important assist.
The Rangers made a decent start to the game which saw them scoring in the fourth minute through Brandon Dubinsky from a brilliant flick shot to get into the lead.
Ducks, with the passage of time and backing of the home crowd, started to come across some brilliant scoring chances.
Ducks were able to take advantage of this and scored in the 8th minute through Corey Perry from a brilliant backhand shot to level the scores.
Ducks kept on piling pressure on the opposing team and scored once again in the 10th minute through Lubomir Visnovsky from a brilliant long range powerful strike.
The period saw both teams turning the game into an offensive battle during the period.
However, Ducks completed a dominating performance in the period as they scored once again in the 20th minute through Lubomir Visnovsky scoring once again.
The period ended with the Ducks leading 3-1 as they made 11 shots on goal while the Rangers made 8 shots on goal.
The second period started off with the both teams continuing to attack and there were some brilliant pieces of play constructed by both teams. However, no goals were scored as the period ended with the Ducks still leading 3-1.
During the course of the period, the Ducks made 13 shots on goal while the Rangers made 11 shots on goal.
The final period saw both teams making a decent start as the Rangers desperately tried to score to make their way back into the game.
This didn’t happen as the Ducks scored the first goal of the period through Bobby Ryan in the third minute to extend their lead.
Rangers were able to respond to this with a goal in the sixth minute which was scored by Marian Gaborik from a simple tip in shot.
However, it was the Ducks' day and they scored once again through Corey Perry from a tip in shot to win the game 5-2 in the end.
