Anaheim Ducks win fourth straight against San Jose Sharks 3-2 -NHL Match Update
Anaheim Ducks won their fourth straight matchup of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season, while San Jose Sharks lost their third consecutive, 3-2, on Monday night, October 17, 2011, at a sold-out HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, United
States.
The Ducks are looking like a Stanley Cup winning team again since they have not had such a start to a season since winning the championship back in 2007.
Taking control of the match early on is always the best way to win any matchup and for future NHL hall of famer, Teemu Selanne, it is critical.
"The first goal is always the most important one", said Selanne, held to just one assist in his first four games, and now having potted two goals straight. "You want to try to get the goals coming. This is not an easy building in which to play, so it was
good to get a few goals".
Selanne scored the opening goal on their second power play advantage of the first period and followed up by potting another nearly five minutes later to extend the lead to a commanding, 2-0.
Marc-Edouard Vlasic put San Jose on the scoreboard a little less than midway through the second, as Sharks missed out on two penalties for the only added man advantages of the period.
2010 NHL MVP, Corey Perry registered his second goal in two games to secure the match as San Jose nearly caught up with Brent Burns scoring his second on a power play opportunity at the 11:01 mark, but failed to add any more afterwards.
"I'm just trying to put it on the net", Perry said. "I saw Bobby (Ryan) going to the net, and I was going to drop it to him early, but he was back checked so I kind of pulled up and waited for him to get to the net and it found a way in".
Anaheim Ducks will now return home for two matchups against Dallas Stars on Friday and Phoenix Coyotes on Sunday. San Jose continues to travel since it has all away games remaining on this month’s schedule, the next being against New Jersey Devils on Friday.
