Anaheim Ducks win the game 3-2 against the Colorado Avalanche(Weekend Roundup)
The final game of Sunday was the played at the Honda Centre, home of the Anaheim Ducks as they were up against the Colorado Avalanche. The Avalanche is pretty much out of contention for the play-offs so a win would just be a consolation. However, the Ducks
needed a win so as to level themselves for the eight spot.
This is exactly what they did as they led by a goal at the end of the first period. However, the Ducks scored thrice in the next two periods while the Avalanche scored once. The game ended with the Ducks winning the game 3-2 in the end. Ryan Getzlaf of the
Ducks scored the all important equalizer to win the game 3-2 in the end.
After a strong start to the first period, the Ducks lost pace and it was the Avalanche who controlled the pace of the game. There were several occasions where the Avalanche could have easily taken the lead but they failed to capitalize early on.
However, with the passage of time the Avalanche got better and better in constructing attacks and successfully scored in the 13th minute to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Kevin Porter from a simple tip in shot.
The period saw the Ducks of also coming up with a few shots on target at the end but they were unable to bag any goals. The period ended with the Avalanche leading 1-0 at the end of the period. During the course of the period the Avalanche made 11 goal attempts
while the Ducks made 5 shots on goal.
The second period saw the Ducks making a quick and effective start to the period. Resultantly, they scored in the second minute through Ryan Getzlaf to level the scores from a brilliant flick shot. The Avalanche caught up pace with them after a few minutes
and it looked as if they would score once again.
However, the Ducks defence was tight and came up with a good performance to restrict their opposition to a few shots only. However, the Ducks were able to find a way past the opposing goal keeper once again as they scored in the 18th minute through
Todd Marchant from a decent strike.
The period ended with the Ducks making 17 goal attempts during the course of the period while the Avalanche made 9 goal attempts.
The final period of the game saw both teams coming up with a decent effort. The Avalanche scoring in the second minute through David Jones to level the scores with the goal scored from a well placed shot. The period moved on with both teams coming up with
decent pieces of plays.
However, the Ducks scored the final goal of the game in the 12th minute with Brandon McMillan scoring during the power play. The period saw the Avalanche making 4 goal attempts while the Ducks made 10 goal attempts. The Ducks won the game 3-2
in the end.
