    The best way to do this is to make sure you understand the meanings of the words, and then to figure out the relation between them.  

    1. Ascribe and assign mean the same thing, as do delineate and depict.

    2. A cliche is something that is trite, and a sonnet is something that is lyrical. ( A) would be a good answer, because the two words mean the same thing, but in the question, cliche is a noun, and trite is an adjective, where in (A) both words are adjectives.  It's a good idea to follow parts of speech, as (D) does, because sonnet is a noun, and lyrical is an adjective.

    3. Laborious is the opposite of facile.  Here, knowing the meanings of the words is important; one must know they are opposites.  Contemptuous and respectful are also opposites.
